Analyze Your Home's Energy Use

As the nation focuses more and more on renewable energy options, it is crucial to realize that to maximize your return, you need to begin with an energy efficient structure.

One of the first steps is to figure out how your home is performing, or how it using its energy. Colorado Energy Science Center (CESC) offers two simple ways for you to do this.

1. Receive an Energy Bill Analysis. CESC’s Energy Bill Analysis produces an energy efficiency ranking. This ranking, which is on a scale of 1 to 100 (100 being most efficient), provides the homeowner with an easy-to-understand percentile rank. This energy bill analysis procedure is based on a unique set of data that includes monthly natural gas and electric usage data and information on the size and age of about 9000 Colorado homes.
2. Get a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Inspection. This inspection begins with a top-to-bottom visual and diagnostic home energy inspection by a specially-trained contractor using state-of-the-art equipment. The contractor will also perform a series of diagnostic tests, including:

  • Air infiltration testing
  • Duct leakage testing
  • Combustion safety testing
